Howdy! My name is Beans, and I am a nonbinary outdoor enthusiast, maker, sewist, and dreamer. I hand-make every bag with love in my Portland, OR studio.
I love being outside…
Climbing, running, snowboarding, biking, backpacking, really anything that allows me to see what this beautiful planet has to offer. From my very beginning, I have been enjoying nature and going on adventures. At the start, it was organized trips with my family or Scouts, but I quickly began seeking out my own experiences.
Through college, I expanded my love for the outdoors while becoming an industrial designer at the University of Cincinnati. Our program was unique, alternating real-world design experience through internships and class work. This cycle allowed me to road trip throughout the U.S. regularly, climbing and snowboarding across the country. I was able to see how beautiful our natural landscapes are while learning design from industry experts and my professors.
Being a designer has exposed me to the scale of consumption and the lack of community that producing products in mass creates, leading me to look for more ethical ways to create outdoor gear. People should know where their products are from, who made them, and how that impacts the planet.
I dream of creating small batch, locally made products where you can run into the sewists at the climbing gym or get recognized on the slopes. They should be as sustainable as possible, durable, functional, and stylish.
Beans Outdoor is just the start of this vision.
Beans Outdoors aims to create a better future for outdoor enthusiasts and the planet by developing sustainable and durable gear that enables all people to explore and experience the beauty of nature while minimizing their environmental impact.

Usually, I’m sewing away in my studio, but when I’m not, I’m out taking .5 selfies while running, climbing, or snowboarding with my friends.
